Your guide to Sknife Steak Knives
Discover the pinnacle of Swiss craftsmanship with the sknife steak knife—expertly forged in Switzerland from surgical-grade steel. Renowned for its exceptional durability, each blade offers four times the corrosion resistance of standard steel and boasts an impressive hardness of 58 HRC, ensuring lasting sharpness and performance.
The sknife steak knife, meticulously crafted in Biel, is designed for perfect balance and comfort in the hand. Its blade, fashioned from surgical steel, is complemented by a handle crafted from locally sourced walnut or black ash—each piece available in a choice of four elegant ash wood finishes.
Completing the collection, the sknife fork is handmade in the same renowned Swiss manufactory. Forged from surgical steel in Emmental and finished with handles of stabilised walnut or ash, this fork is a rare example of true one-piece European craftsmanship. Notably, sknife is Switzerland’s sole remaining producer of such forks, and the walnut steak cutlery range was awarded the prestigious Red Dot: Best of the Best Design Award in 2018.
The Finest Materials
Surgical Steel:
Originally developed for the aerospace industry and now trusted in surgical settings and fine watchmaking, this steel’s unique microstructure delivers outstanding durability and a refined, razor-thin edge. By substituting carbon with nitrogen, corrosion resistance is increased fourfold. With a hardness comparable to top Japanese blades, your knife will retain its edge for years to come.

Swiss Wood:
The handles are crafted from FSC-certified Swiss walnut and ash, sourced from a traditional woodturner in Emmental. To ensure longevity, the wood is stabilised using a cutting-edge vacuum and pressure process—an innovation developed in partnership with the University of Applied Sciences in Biel. This not only enhances durability but also brings out the wood’s natural beauty.

Traditional Swiss Craftsmanship
Each sknife blade is forged in Oberburg at temperatures exceeding 1,000°C, using a 3.5-ton hammer to achieve a perfect fusion of material and artistry. Every knife is then hand-finished in our Biel manufactory, where skilled cutlers assemble, bond, and shape the wooden grips for a seamless, elegant result. The adhesives used are aviation-grade, offering superior heat resistance and reliability.
Care & Maintenance
With their exceptionally hard, finely ground blades, sknife knives are best maintained using a fine-grained ceramic sharpening rod to preserve their pristine edge without scratching.
